Mayo to Host 2009 Connacht Gold/National Dairy Council Health & Wellbeing Event

The 2009 Health & Wellbeing Evening, hosted by Connacht Gold and the National Dairy Council, will be held in the beautiful Castle Court Hotel in Westport. The event, which will be free to all members of the public and will take place on Thursday, 29th October at 7.00pm, was launched by Mayo football stars Ronan McGarrity and Cora Staunton.
This is the second Health & Wellbeing Evening to be arranged by the two organisations following the huge success of last year’s event in Sligo. Over 480 attended the Clarion Hotel to hear presentations from high profile nutritionist Paula Mee, wellbeing specialist Fiona Hoban and beauty expert Clarins representative Fidelma Kelly.
The Mayo event will take a similar format to last year’s with Paula Mee, who makes frequent appearances on RTÉ’s popular Afternoon Show, and Fiona Hoban both featuring again this year following their popularity with the Sligo crowd. Demonstrations from Joan Roland’s Westport hair and beauty experts, Petals Salon, will finish the evening.
“When we organised the Health & Wellbeing event last year we did so to give something back to our customers and to thank them for their support. Not at any stage did we imagine that we would get such a tremendous response,” said Mary Fox, General Manager of Connacht Gold’s Consumer Foods Division.
“We had no hesitation in deciding to hold another similar event and we’re delighted this year to be bringing it to the people of Mayo. Two of our speakers are experts based in Mayo and Connacht Gold is proud to be supporting local businesses with this event.”
Dr. Catherine Logan, Nutrition Manager with the NDC said, “The National Dairy Council is an independent first point of contact on dairy consumer-related issues for consumers, health professionals and the media.
“An important part of what we do is the analysis of new and emerging scientific research which will help us to educate consumers about dairy as part of a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle. We do this through printed information guides for consumers and the publication of information on our web site - but we see a Health and Wellbeing evening like this as an important opportunity to provide up to date information to the public and to answer questions.”
A gorgeous food and wine reception will open the event, exclusive goodie bags will be available to everyone who attends and a prize draw will take place on the night with all funds raised being donated to Western Care, a charity which provides supports and services to people with intellectual disabilities in the county.
