Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Reduced by Dairy

Increasing research into the role that consuming dairy plays in reducing the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, has been highlighted in a recent Scientific Review. According to a review published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, those who consume more dairy products, may lower their chances of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Thousands of Children Receive Free School Milk to Celebrate National Dairy Week

On Monday 16th November, 42,622 children in 952 schools throughout the Republic of Ireland will have received their school milk free, in an initiative by National Dairy Council member co-ops to celebrate the start of National Dairy Week.

NDC Launches Nationwide Campaign to Support Local Jobs & National Dairy Week

9th November, 2009: The NDC is launching a major 3 month national advertising campaign to build consumer understanding and recognition of the new NDC packaging mark and to promote support for milk and cream farmed in the Republic of Ireland. This will be followed by National Dairy Week from 16th November, an opportunity to celebrate the nutrient richness of dairy.

Over 550 Attend National Dairy Council / Connacht Gold Health & Wellbeing Event in Westport - Event raises €3,700 for local charity Western Care

Over 550 people attended the Health & Wellbeing Event hosted by the National Dairy Council and Connacht Gold at the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport on Thursday evening 29th October. The event was a huge success and saw experts give free advice to the public on looking and feeling great heading into the winter months. The event was free to the public and €3,700 was raised for local charity Western Care through raffle ticket sales.

World Osteoporosis Day - Beat the Break - Time to get wise and take control - This is your Future

20% of people over the age of 60 who fracture a hip, will pass away due to complications within 6-12 months. 50% are unable to wash, bath or walk across a room unaided. Only 30% will regain their independence.

“These are not comfortable statistics, but we need to face them and acknowledge that they are real because we can help to prevent this from happening to ourselves in the future,” says Michele O’Brien, National Health Promotion Officer with the Irish Osteoporosis Society, speaking on World Osteoporosis Day (20th October 2009) at the Women In Agriculture Conference in Athlone, supported by the National Dairy Council and Country Living/Irish Farmers Journal.

Over 40 Countries Celebrate World School Milk Day

World School Milk Day on Wednesday 30th September is celebrated in over 40 countries, including Ireland, where the National Dairy Council & FAI have today announced the winners of a School Milk Day competition which will see two primary school classes attend the Republic of Ireland vs Italy World Cup qualifier soccer match on Saturday 10th October in Croke Park.

NDC Conference and AGM, Dublin - 23 June, 2009

The National Dairy Council Conference took place in Dublin’s Clarion Hotel on 23rd June, 2009. The Conference was officially opened by broadcaster and journalist George Hook, included speakers from Global Dairy Platform, Nielsen Ireland, Irish Osteoporosis Society, UCD Smurfit Graduate School and the FAI.

NDC Quality Milk Awards Launched - Search Starts for Ireland’s Top Dairy Farmer

Irish dairy farmers will have a new opportunity to compete for the “Sam Maguire of farming” with the launch of the National Dairy Council Quality Milk Awards, which set out to identify and reward high standards of milk production. Dairy co-ops throughout the Republic of Ireland have been invited to nominate their top Irish dairy farmers for this year’s award by 22nd June, 2009.

National Dairy Council Forms Alliance with Great Britain’s Dairy Council

The National Dairy Council (NDC) has entered into a strategic alliance with Great Britain’s Dairy Council to strengthen access to broader dairy related scientific resources, in a cost effective manner. The alliance will complement the existing nutritional capabilities of the NDC and will also support specific NDC programmes in Ireland, ultimately strengthening the voice of the Irish dairy industry.
